I don't see my skin as being perfect by any stretch. I'm sure some of you can find flaws or imperfections that need to be corrected but I'm not interested in hearing what you have to say. I have said this before but one time this lady at a cosmetics store or counter almost gave me a complex by telling my me skin was beautiful except that I needed to do some work under my eyes. And I'm like man I have had bags under my eyes since I was baby. LEAVE ME ALONE and stop trying to make me feel insecure so you can sell me some of your bullshit.
My mom and Dad (RIP).
Above and beyond my genes, here's my current pretty simple routine.
For the past several years I have been using the following products whenever I take a shower (not 2 or three times a day..only when I shower):
Image Skincare VITAL C - hydrating repair crème
Image Skincare VITAL C - hydrating intense moisturizer
Image Skincare ORMEDIC - balancing bio-peptide crème
All of these can be purchased from Amazon.com
Anyway. In order to even out the tone of my skin, there are times when I will also use Image Skincare's totally Ageless Skin Lightening Serum. If or when I do use it, I put it on at the same time as my moisturizer. I used to use it daily but last year I noticed that I started looking too pale in the wintertime and I didn't like it so I stopped using it daily. I was kind of worried that I'd end up looking like Sammy Sosa so now I only use it if I need to even out my tone.
8. On a daily basis I do not wear makeup such as powder or foundation. I only wear powder when I am doing a performance. Usually immediately after the performance or as soon as possible, I wash the makeup off my face using my clarisonic brush and the Jan Marini cleanser.
9. I do not "grease" or oil my hair at night because I do not like the feeling of oil or grease on my face. Plus sometimes oils make my face break out.
I have to give credit to Amber Campion a Las Vegas-based Esthetician who turned me on to the Clarisonic skin brush, Image Skincare line and the Jan Marini cleanser. She was introduced to me through a friend from choir, Cindy Hallam, and even though I stopped going to the esthetician years ago, I still use some of what she recommended. It works and I don't like to change things once I find things that work.
I love to be pro-black and buy-black but I haven't found things that work quite as well as these products. YES, I've tried shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, avocado oil....all that and I didn't like it. Once I find something that works that I like, I stick with it. If I find someone with beautiful amazing skin I will ask them what they use and perhaps test it out or add it to my repertoire but this is my current routine for those of you who want to know what I do with my skin.
This is me over the ages from high school age to age 45 and in the case of each of these pictures I am not wearing any powder or foundation. The picture with the microphone may have been photoshopped (I'm not sure because it's from a performance) but the last picture is me at 45 having dunked my head in the swimming pool so this is definitely me in the raw. In spite of everyone who always has some dumb advice to give you, I feel pretty good about my skin over the years.
